His mother, Jijabai, was a deeply religious woman who instilled in Shivaji, the importance of ethics and righteous values. Under her guidance, Shivaji grew up to be a brave and honest leader who was deeply committed to his people and his land.

Shivaji Maharaj demonstrated his leadership skills at a very young age. By sixteen, he managed to gather a dedicated army of Mavala soldiers. He established a competent and progressive civil rule with the help of disciplined military and well-structured administrative organizations.
