Archimedes — Father of Mathematics
Archimedes was a Greek mathematician, physicist, and engineer who lived in the 3rd century BC. He is known for his achievements in geometry, statics and hydrostatics, as well as his inventions of various machines.
Archimedes was born in 287 BC on the island of Syracuse to an astronomer father who discovered how to calculate the size of the sun. He studied at Alexandria under Euclid, who was a famous mathematician.
Archimedes died in 212 B.C., when Syracuse was captured by Roman soldiers during the Second Punic War.
