Good morning to one and all present here. Today, I would like to talk about the great Indian philosopher and spiritual leader, Swami Vivekananda.
Born as Narendra Nath Datta, in Kolkata on January 12, 1863, Swami Vivekananda set the example of a fearless life. His teachings have been an inspiration to many, and his ideals of faith and fearlessness are of great importance today. He believed that youth are the future and they can become the strength of a nation if they are educated well.
Swami Vivekananda’s message of universal brotherhood and self-awakening has inspired many around the world. He propagated the message of Vedanta philosophy in the West and revived Hinduism in India. He also urged people, especially the youth, to lead a spiritual life while also embracing material prosperity.
One of his most powerful and memorable speeches was in Chicago at the World’s Parliament of Religions in 1893. He began his speech with ‘Brothers and Sisters of America’, a statement that won him a standing ovation from the audience. He then spoke about the need for religious tolerance and an end to fanaticism.
Swami Vivekananda believed that the ultimate goal of all human beings is to realize their divine nature. He emphasized the importance of spiritual enlightenment and the need to serve others. His teachings continue to guide and inspire millions around the world.

Today, I am going to talk about a person whose words and teachings have been inspiring millions across the globe. He is none other than Swami Vivekananda, a profound philosopher, an articulate orator, and a charismatic spiritual leader who dedicated his life to the upliftment of humanity.
Swami Vivekananda was born on 12th January 1863, in Kolkata, into an affluent family. His thirst for knowledge was evident from an early age. He was an avid reader and he questioned everything until he was satisfied with the answers. He went on to study western philosophy and history at the University of Calcutta. However, his mind was always engrossed in the quest for God and truth.
Vivekananda’s life took a significant turn when he met his Guru, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa. Under his guidance, he learnt that all living beings were an embodiment of the Divine Self; therefore, service to God could be rendered by service to mankind. This teaching greatly influenced Swami Vivekananda and became the cornerstone of his philosophy.
In 1893, Swami Vivekananda represented India at the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago. His opening words, “Sisters and Brothers of America,” won the hearts of the audience, and he received a standing ovation. He spoke about the rich cultural heritage of India, the greatness of Hinduism, and the need for universal tolerance and acceptance. His powerful speech put India on the world map of spirituality and philosophy.
Swami Vivekananda was not just a spiritual leader; he was a visionary who dreamt of a strong and prosperous India. He stressed the importance of education, especially for women, as he believed that a country could not progress if its women were not educated. He once said, “All the wealth of the world cannot help one little Indian village if the people are not taught to help themselves.” He firmly believed that the true essence of religion was the welfare of the masses.
