I am delighted to stand before you today to speak about a man who is not just a business tycoon but a source of inspiration to millions, Mr. Ratan Tata. His name is synonymous with the Tata Group, one of the biggest and most respected business conglomerates in India.

I stand here today to talk about a living legend, a man who has given a new dimension to the Indian automobile and steel industry. A man who has set high standards of ethical business conduct. Yes, I am talking about none other than Mr. Ratan Naval Tata, the former Chairman of Tata Group.
Born on 28th December 1937, Ratan Tata had a difficult childhood with his parents separating when he was just ten. However, this did not deter him, and he went on to gain an architecture degree from Cornell University and completed the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School. After coming back to India, he joined the family business, Tata Group, in 1961 and took over as Chairman in 1991.
Under his leadership, the Tata Group reached new heights. He expanded the business into new sectors, including software services, finance, and hospitality. His vision and business acumen led to the acquisition of global brands such as Tetley, Jaguar, and Land Rover, and the creation of the world’s cheapest car, Tata Nano, a symbol of innovation and affordability. His contribution to the Indian steel industry is also significant with the acquisition of Corus, which made Tata Steel one of the largest steel producers in the world.
However, what sets Ratan Tata apart is not just his business acumen, but his belief in ethical business practices. He is known for his commitment to corporate ethics and his stance against corruption. He strongly believes in giving back to society and under his leadership, Tata Group has contributed immensely to various social causes in areas such as education, health, and rural development.
