David Emile Durkheim — Father of Social Sciences
David Emile Durkheim (1858-1917) was a French sociologist who is considered the father of social science.
He was fascinated by human behavior and the ways we interact with each other. He believed that most people are governed by a sense of morality, but that it is possible for people to lose sight of their morals if they are surrounded by too much social pressure or if they lack a strong support system.
His research focused on suicide rates as one indicator of whether or not people were losing sight of their morals. He discovered that suicide rates were higher among soldiers who had recently been discharged from the military, who were unemployed, or who had recently lost their jobs.
