Alexander Cunningham is known as the father of indian archaeology and his role in the development of Indian archaelogy. He was the first person to map the entire Indian subcontinent. His research and reports of ancient monuments led to the resurgence of Hinduism, especially through the constructions of railroads and telegraph lines.
when he published The Archaeological Survey of India, which provided a detailed description of the monuments and archaeological remains left behind by past civilizations.
His two-volume work A History of Archæology in India is considered by many scholars as one of the finest achievements of its kind.
