Raymond Samuel Tomlinson — Father of Email
Raymond Samuel Tomlinson, the father of email, was a programmer and network engineer who worked for Bolt Beranek and Newman (BBN) in the 70s.
He is credited with writing the first email program, which enabled users to send messages to each other over a computer network.
Tomlinson’s work at BBN led him to create a number of other innovations, including the first online messaging system that allowed people to talk to each other through their computers in real time. It was called “TENEX,” and it allowed users to exchange messages without being connected directly by phone line or modem.
