William Gilbert Grace was an English amateur cricketer who played first-class cricket for a record-equalling 44 seasons, from 1865 to 1908. He captained England, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, the Gentlemen and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), and several other teams. He is generally regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of all time.
He is best known for his prowess as a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium-pace bowler. He is often referred to as “WG” or “The Doctor”, due to his medical profession.
